Trails Open
Trails in Oneida County are opened as of December 22, 8:00 AM. Recent snow and cold weather have allowed us to finally open the trail system. Please keep in mind we have early season conditions and caution should be exercised when venturing out the first time. The lakes will be marked as soon as they are safe. Do not head out over unmarked lakes for your safety. Three Lakes area trail maps are available at all local businesses and the Three Lakes Chamber of Commerce. Have a happy and safe Holiday Season!!!

Three Lakes - Eagle River Trail reopened
Thanks to the diligent effort by many people from Three Lakes Trails, Northern Lights Snowmobile Club and the Eagle River Sno-Eagles, the trail that was formally known as Corridor Trail #13 will reopen for this riding season. Over 50 volunteers meet on Saturday, December 6 to reroute nearly 1/2 mile of trail. It was a great effort by all three clubs and a great Thanks to members of the Eagle River Sno-Eagles for lending a hand. Paul's Rent-All of Saint Germain donated the use of a skid steer used to help pull stumps and clear trees.
Bonnie's Lakeside donated lunch for all the volunteer workers. It was a great time for all the volunteers to get to know one another and make new friends.
Sportsman's service center also provided man power and offered equipment if needed which shows the importance of the trail to the area and the camaraderie this sport brings.
Please be sure and STAY on the trail. The negotiations to open this trail have many hours invested and we don't want to jeopardize this important link.
The trail will be referred to as ALT 13 this year. We will be working with the DNR to reinstate the original corridor 13 as it's been for a very long time.
Thanks to everyone involved for a great team effort!!!

Three Lakes, rich in snowmobile history...
Did you know that Snow Goer Magazine was started here in Three Lakes? Did you know the second World Champion, George Gensler was also from Three Lakes? One of the pit stops of the Hodag 50 was right here in what is now known as Burnside Park. The Hodag 50 was a 50 mile cross country race from Rhinelander to Three Lakes, Sugar Camp and back to Rhinelander. All the big factories participated in the grueling cross country race long before long travel and independent front suspensions.
We recently lost one of the snowmobiling pioneers that was important to our sport. Duane Tillman was the first Rupp dealer in town starting in the mid ‘60's into the early ‘70's. He started ‘Sno-Sport Safari's' which was the first ‘touring' company of it's kind. Tourists would come from all around including Milwaukee, Chicago and Madison to take part in an adventure in the Northwoods on these new snow machines. Duane would take groups on the Rupp Sno-Sport sleds out into the woods long before there was an organized trail system. They'd have a destination of a fire pit deep in the woods where they would roast hot dogs over the open fire and see the beauty most would never be able to see deep into the winter. He was also an active member of our club.
Duane was truly a pioneer before his time. Our condolences are with the family and his memories will stay with us for many years to come.

Join a Club...
Ever wonder where all the trails we ride came from? Ever wonder who keeps those trails open and groomed for your riding pleasure? There are countless snowmobile club volunteers that get landowners permission, brush and sign, groom and work with governing bodies to keep snowmobiling a healthy, vibrant sport. Without clubs, there would be no trails, no groomers and no winter time fun for those of us that love to ride. Club membership is cheap for the benefits you get.
• Dues are $25 per family which help support local trail maintenance
• Participate in club activities and meet new friends with similar interests
• Become part of the Association of Wisconsin Snowmobile Clubs which stands up for snowmobiliers across the state promoting snowmobile friendly legislation
• Membership in the Association of Wisconsin Snowmobile Clubs which include a monthly magazine and $2500 death or dismemberment benefit for family members,
• Lend a hand in keeping our trails open and well maintained when possible.
Your support would be greatly appreciated!!!

Fourth of July Float a Winner!!!!
Thanks to the efforts of Scott & Christina Gebele and Dean, Karla & Jan Lederhaus, we had a 4th of July float that was second to none. Dean and Scott put their engineering talents to work and came up with a snowmobile 'Snow Globe' that captured the attention of the crowd and judges alike. To celebrate Lion's Club 60th anniversary, Jan Lederhaus created a lion, complete with mane and tail that donned a Lion's Club hat and vest while sitting on a 1967 fully restored, red, white and blue Polaris Colt. Behind the vintage sled was our snow globe complete with a Polaris mini 120 snowmobile and blizzard. Thanks so much to those that helped make this year's event and NLSC to be First Place Winners!!! You can see the float in action on Facebook!

Three Lakes Vintage Ride - Trail Fundraiser
If you've never attended a vintage event, this needs to be on your bucket list. The annual Three Lakes Vintage ride will take place on February 4th and will start with breakfast at Bonnie's Lakeside on Spirit Lake. The past several years nearly 100 vintage sleds participated in the ride to several local establishments. Raffles at the event help raise funds for Three Lakes Trails. This is a great event with lots of memories and good food along the way. It also reminds us why we ride NEWer machines these days.

Snow and Cold return to the Northwoods
After record high temperatures melted much of the snow in open areas, the snow and cold have returned. Area trails are now in very good to excellent condition. The forecast is looking good for extended cold temperatures.

Ride Safe, Smart and Responsibly
Ride Safe-stay right in anticipation of oncoming traffic. Ride Smart-knowing where blind curves are so you are best prepared when meeting snowmobilers coming from the other direction. Ride Responsibly-most fatal accidents involve alcohol. Know your limits when visiting our local establishments. Remember that every snowmobiler is someone's son, daughter, father, mother, brother or sister. Please make a conscious effort to think about your own safety and the safety of those that share the trail with you.

Our AWSC Groomer of the Year...
All of us have grown to appreciate riding groomed trails. Most riders don't know what it's like to spend hours in a groomer chugging along at a mere 8 - 10 miles per hour. NLSC is proud to announce that one of our very own has been chosen as the AWSC Groomer of the Year. This competition is statewide so this award is special. The NLSC Board had nominated George Brunette as Groomer of the year and this past August he was selected over a very talented and dedicated field of candidates.
George is a very dedicated groomer. You'll often see him on the Kimball Creek trail at night which takes up to 16 hours to groom. We are proud to have George grooming our Northwoods trails. Congratulations George! Great Job!!!

Three Lakes Trails Expands Territitory
Three Lakes Trails has come to an agreement with Forest County and has assumed responsibility for an additional 45 miles of trail. The area is known as the Brule River Trails and is located in the Alvin area. Crews have been working to clear trees, pull rocks and secure landowner agreements. Now we can ride all the way to Michigan on trails. We are now one of the largest grooming operations in the state.

We will be returning to Four Seasons Island Resort February 6th - 8th in Pembine WI. The 135 mile ride takes us through Forest and Marrinette Counties through some of the most beautiful trails the Northwoods has to offer. Last year, we found Four Season's hospitality second to none with great food and a warm atmosphere. Last years ride had nearly 50 riders with this year promising to be bigger.

Trail Loss
Trail #13 which ran between Three Lakes north to Eagle River has been closed by a local landowner. This trail was the busiest trail in Oneida County. Negotiations continue with the land owner but for now, the trail will be closed requiring riders to ride to Sugar Camp and then north to Eagle River. We'll keep this site updated as changes occur.

Join a Club
With trail closures threatened all around our state, it is important snowmobilers have good representation. There is no better way to have representation than through numbers. By joining an AWSC member club, we have a voice that will be heard in Madison and can help get legislation in place to keep our trail systems safe. You can join NLSC by filling out the Membership application and mailing in today.
